Warm Apple Fritters

These Baked Apple Fritters are the perfect combination of light and fluffy on the inside with a crispy golden exterior. The warm cinnamon and nutmeg pair beautifully with the sweet apples, making each bite feel like a cozy autumn hug.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup apple, peeled and finely diced (about 1 medium apple)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1-2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for glaze)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for topping)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in the diced apple until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  6. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the fritters are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the fritters are baking, make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon until smooth and runny.
  9. Once the fritters are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters, and if desired, sprinkle with brown sugar for extra sweetness and crunch.
