Apple Pie Bombs are a delightful twist on a classic dessert, combining the warm, gooey goodness of apple pie with the fun, bite-sized appeal of a doughy bomb. The cinnamon sugar coating gives each bite a crispy, sweet exterior, while the tender, spiced apple filling inside creates that nostalgic pie flavor everyone loves.
- Ingredients:
For the apple filling:
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the dough:
- 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
For the cinnamon sugar coating:
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
- Make the apple filling: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, cornstarch, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the mixture has thickened. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
- Prepare the dough: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- Open the biscuit dough and separate the biscuits. Roll each biscuit into a small circle, about 4 inches in diameter.
- Spoon a heaping tablespoon of the apple filling into the center of each biscuit. Carefully fold the edges of the biscuit dough around the filling, pinching them together to seal into a ball shape.
- Coat with cinnamon sugar: Dip each apple pie bomb into the melted butter, then roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat completely. Place the coated bombs on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the apple pie bombs are golden brown and puffed up.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving, and enjoy the warm, gooey apple pie filling inside each bomb.
