These Funnel Cake Bites are a deliciously crispy twist on the classic fairground treat. Light and airy on the inside with a perfectly crunchy exterior, these little bites are coated in a generous dusting of powdered sugar, giving them that authentic carnival feel.
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (plus extra for frying)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions:
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until the batter is smooth.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, turning them occasionally until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the funnel cake bites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, dust the funnel cake bites generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the crispy, sweet goodness!
