Sweet Funnel Cake Bites with Powdered Sugar

These Funnel Cake Bites are a deliciously crispy twist on the classic fairground treat. Light and airy on the inside with a perfectly crunchy exterior, these little bites are coated in a generous dusting of powdered sugar, giving them that authentic carnival feel.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (plus extra for frying)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Directions:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until the batter is smooth.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, turning them occasionally until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the funnel cake bites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. While still warm, dust the funnel cake bites generously with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy the crispy, sweet goodness!
