  1. Ingredients:
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup rolled oats
    • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
    Directions:
    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
    2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    3. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
    5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. The dough will be slightly crumbly.
    6. Press half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
    7. In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
    8. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust in the pan.
    9. Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the apples, sprinkling it evenly to cover the filling.
    10. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
    11. Let the bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then drizzle with melted butter before cutting into squares.
