Southern Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients:

For the Sweet Potato Base:

  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4 large sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

For the Pecan Topping:

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, melted butter, milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, prepare the pecan topping by mixing the brown sugar, flour, melted butter, and chopped pecans until a crumbly mixture forms.
  5. Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato layer.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  7. Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.
