Smooth Homemade Strawberry Jam

This Homemade Strawberry Jam captures the essence of summer with every spoonful. The sweet, tangy flavor of fresh strawberries blends perfectly with the smooth texture of the jam, creating a delicious spread for toast, scones, or desserts. The natural sweetness of the strawberries shines through, with just a hint of lemon for a refreshing, bright finish.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and mashed
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 packet (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (like Sure-Jell)

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mash the strawberries with a potato masher or fork until you have a smooth consistency with a few small chunks remaining. Set aside.
  2. In a large pot, combine the mashed strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to boil.
  3. Once the mixture starts boiling, stir in the fruit pectin and continue to boil for about 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently. The jam should thicken up.
  4. To test the consistency, drop a small spoonful of the jam onto a cold plate and let it sit for a minute. Run your finger through the jam – if it wrinkles and holds its shape, it’s ready. If not, cook for a few more minutes and test again.
  5. Once the jam reaches the desired thickness, remove it from the heat. If desired, stir in vanilla extract for extra flavor.
  6. Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Seal the jars with lids and let them cool to room temperature.
  7. Once cooled, store the jam in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or process the jars for long-term storage using a water bath canning method.
