Shrimp Dirty Rice

This Shrimp Dirty Rice is the perfect combination of juicy shrimp, smoky sausage, and aromatic spices, all nestled in tender rice. The mix of Cajun seasonings, thyme, and paprika gives this dish a rich, earthy flavor that brings comfort and satisfaction with every bite.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add the smoked sausage slices and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Add the garlic, Cajun seasoning, thyme, paprika, and cayenne (if using). Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the rice and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  6. While the rice is cooking, season the shrimp with salt and black pepper. In a separate skillet, cook the shrimp over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and cooked through.
  7. Once the rice is ready, stir in the cooked sausage and shrimp. Mix well to combine and let everything warm through for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
