The Red Velvet Honeybun combines the rich, indulgent flavor of red velvet with the irresistible warmth of cinnamon and sugar, all topped with a creamy glaze. This cake is soft, moist, and perfectly swirled, offering a balance of sweetness and a slight hint of cocoa. The beautiful red color and glossy glaze make it as visually stunning as it is delicious.
- Ingredients:
For the cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp white vinegar
For the cinnamon swirl:
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and vinegar.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon for the swirl.
- Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan and smooth it into an even layer. Drizzle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter, followed by half of the melted butter. Repeat with the remaining batter and swirl the cinnamon mixture gently into the cake with a knife.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the cake has cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the warm cake. Allow it to cool completely before slicing and serving.
