Red Velvet Honeybun

The Red Velvet Honeybun combines the rich, indulgent flavor of red velvet with the irresistible warmth of cinnamon and sugar, all topped with a creamy glaze. This cake is soft, moist, and perfectly swirled, offering a balance of sweetness and a slight hint of cocoa. The beautiful red color and glossy glaze make it as visually stunning as it is delicious.

  1. Ingredients:
    For the cake:
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp white vinegar

For the cinnamon swirl:

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and vinegar.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon for the swirl.
  7. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan and smooth it into an even layer. Drizzle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter, followed by half of the melted butter. Repeat with the remaining batter and swirl the cinnamon mixture gently into the cake with a knife.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Once the cake has cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the warm cake. Allow it to cool completely before slicing and serving.
