- Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cornmeal (for dusting)
Directions:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir until the dough begins to come together, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 2 portions for two medium pizzas, or leave whole for one large pizza.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness. Sprinkle a baking sheet or pizza stone with cornmeal, then transfer the dough onto it.
- Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
