Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast

The crème brûlée French toast is a decadent treat that combines the rich, smooth custard of crème brûlée with the comforting, warm texture of French toast. The caramelized sugar topping adds an irresistible crunch, while fresh berries offer a burst of freshness to balance the sweetness.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • Fresh berries (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and arrange the bread slices in a single layer.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, making sure all the bread is coated. Press down lightly to ensure even coverage.
  4. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, allowing the bread to soak in the custard mixture.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning.
  6. Remove the plastic wrap and bake the French toast for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly puffed.
  7. Sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the top of the French toast and broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the sugar caramelizes to a golden, crunchy topping.
  8. Serve with fresh berries and a drizzle of maple syrup for an extra touch of sweetness.
