Indian Fry Bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon oil (plus extra for frying)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water, milk, and oil while stirring to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 balls, flattening each ball into a 6-inch circle.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  7. Fry each bread for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffy.
  8. Place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with toppings of choice.
