Gravy-Topped Sausage and Biscuit Pie

Sausage, Gravy, and Biscuit Pie is a comforting, hearty dish that’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even dinner. The savory sausage gravy is creamy and flavorful, served over flaky biscuit pieces, creating a filling and satisfying meal that will please any crowd. The addition of cheddar cheese on top adds a wonderful richness to the dish.

  1. Ingredients:
    • 1 lb breakfast sausage (mild or spicy, depending on preference)
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground thyme
    • 1 refrigerated biscuit dough (such as Pillsbury)
    • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
    • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
    Directions:
    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish or a similar baking dish.
    2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it up into small crumbles as it cooks. Continue cooking for 5-7 minutes, until the sausage is browned and fully cooked through.
    3. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir well to combine, cooking for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
    4. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to thicken, about 5 minutes. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the gravy is thick and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and thyme to taste. Remove from heat.
    5. Unroll the biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters. Arrange the biscuit pieces in the prepared pie dish, covering the bottom.
    6. Pour the sausage gravy mixture over the biscuit pieces, spreading it out evenly. If desired, sprinkle the top with grated cheddar cheese for an extra layer of flavor.
    7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the gravy is bubbly.
    8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
