Decadent Salted Caramel Swirl Brownies

These Salted Caramel Brownies are the perfect balance of rich, fudgy chocolate and decadent salted caramel. The gooey center and slightly crisp edges create a melt-in-your-mouth experience, while the addition of a generous sprinkle of sea salt brings out the sweetness and cuts through the richness.

  1. Ingredients:
    For the brownies:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

For the salted caramel sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling on top)

Directions:

  1. Make the salted caramel sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and bring to a simmer. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  2. Slowly pour in the heavy cream and continue to stir until the mixture is smooth and thickens slightly. Stir in the vanilla extract and sea salt, then remove from heat. Set aside to cool.
  3. Prepare the brownies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder, then fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips, if using.
  6. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it into an even layer. Drizzle half of the salted caramel sauce over the batter. Then, add the remaining brownie batter on top and swirl the caramel with a knife to create a marbled effect.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  8. Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan. Once cool, drizzle with the remaining salted caramel sauce and sprinkle a little extra sea salt on top.
