- Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Directions:
- Make the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, eggs, cocoa powder, food coloring, vanilla extract, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
- Gradually add flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing until the dough begins to come together.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Make the Filling: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Assemble the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
- Spread the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 even slices.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Make the Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth and fluffy.
- Once the rolls are done, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls.
