- Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni slices
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 8 hamburger buns
- Butter for toasting buns
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
- Transfer the cooked beef mixture to your crockpot. Stir in the pizza sauce, chopped pepperoni, green bell pepper, black olives (if using), Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
- Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours, or on high for 2 hours, until all the flavors are well combined.
- About 10 minutes before serving, stir in the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Let the mixture cook until the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Toast the hamburger buns by lightly buttering them and placing them in a skillet or on a griddle over medium heat until golden brown.
- Serve the pizza burger mixture on the toasted buns. Garnish with extra cheese or pepperoni if desired.
