Crockpot Pizza Burgers

  1. Ingredients:
    • 1.5 lbs ground beef
    • 1 cup pizza sauce
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni slices
    • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
    • 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)
    • 1 small onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
    • 8 hamburger buns
    • Butter for toasting buns
    Directions:
    1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until softened.
    2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
    3. Transfer the cooked beef mixture to your crockpot. Stir in the pizza sauce, chopped pepperoni, green bell pepper, black olives (if using), Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
    4. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours, or on high for 2 hours, until all the flavors are well combined.
    5. About 10 minutes before serving, stir in the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Let the mixture cook until the cheese is melted and gooey.
    6. Toast the hamburger buns by lightly buttering them and placing them in a skillet or on a griddle over medium heat until golden brown.
    7. Serve the pizza burger mixture on the toasted buns. Garnish with extra cheese or pepperoni if desired.
