Crispy Fried Pickles with Spicy Nashville Hot Sauce Kick

These Nashville Hot Fried Pickles are the ultimate combination of crispy, crunchy goodness and fiery heat. The dill pickle slices are perfectly battered and fried to golden perfection, then tossed in a flavorful, spicy Nashville hot sauce that takes them over the top.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 1 jar of pickle slices (dill or bread-and-butter)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons Nashville hot chicken seasoning or spicy hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot or homemade Nashville sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Directions:

  1. Begin by draining the pickle slices and patting them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat, about 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dredge the pickle slices in the flour mixture, then dip them into the egg and buttermilk mixture, and coat them again with the flour mixture. Repeat until all pickles are coated.
  6. Fry the pickles in batches for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the Nashville hot chicken seasoning (or hot sauce), brown sugar (if using), and melted butter. Stir to combine.
  8. Drizzle the hot sauce mixture over the fried pickles and toss them gently to coat evenly.
  9. Serve immediately with a side of ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.
