This Chinese Chicken Cabbage Stir-Fry is a simple yet flavorful dish that combines tender chicken with crisp cabbage in a savory sauce. The sesame oil, soy sauce, and oyster sauce create a rich umami flavor, while the cabbage adds a refreshing crunch.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 1 small head of napa cabbage, chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and garlic.
- In another small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water (if using).
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir-fry the chicken for 5-7 minutes, or until it is golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil and stir-fry the cabbage over high heat for 2-3 minutes until it starts to wilt but is still slightly crisp.
- Add the cooked chicken back to the skillet, along with the soy sauce mixture. Stir to coat everything evenly.
- If using cornstarch, pour the dissolved cornstarch into the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with more soy sauce or salt if needed. Serve immediately.
