Crispy Bang Bang Chicken with Creamy Sauce

Bang Bang Chicken is a vibrant and flavorful dish that packs a punch of heat and sweetness in every bite. The crispy chicken pieces are coated in a creamy, spicy sauce made with sweet chili and sriracha, giving them a satisfying crunch on the outside and a creamy, tangy finish. This dish is perfect for those who love bold flavors with a bit of spice.

  1. Ingredients:
    • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
    • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup cornstarch
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
    For the Bang Bang Sauce:
    • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
    • 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
    • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
    • 1 teaspoon honey
    • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    Directions:
    1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha sauce, honey, and rice vinegar to make the Bang Bang sauce. Taste and adjust the level of spiciness by adding more sriracha if desired. Set aside.
    2. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat. Let the chicken marinate for at least 10 minutes.
    3. In a separate shallow dish, combine the flour and cornstarch. Dredge each piece of marinated chicken in the flour mixture, pressing gently to coat.
    4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken pieces in batches, frying for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F/75°C).
    5. Remove the chicken from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
    6. In a large mixing bowl, toss the crispy chicken with the prepared Bang Bang sauce until evenly coated.
    7. Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
