  1. Ingredients:
  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Directions:

  1. Begin by preparing your breading station: Place the flour in a shallow dish. In a second shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and water. In a third shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  2. Take each mozzarella stick and dip it first in the flour, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Then, dip it in the egg mixture, followed by the breadcrumb mixture. For extra crunch, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating process to double-coat the cheese sticks.
  3. Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. Freezing helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during frying.
  4. While the mozzarella sticks are chilling, heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 375°F (190°C). You’ll need enough oil to fully submerge the cheese sticks.
