Creamy Baked Onions with Asiago Cheese are a perfect blend of savory, cheesy goodness. The tender, caramelized onions are filled with a luscious, creamy mixture of Asiago and Parmesan cheese, which becomes rich and bubbly as it bakes to perfection. The crispy breadcrumb topping adds an irresistible crunch, making this dish a comforting yet elegant side for any meal.
- Ingredients:
- 4 medium-sized yellow onions
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Asiago cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for crunch)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel the onions and slice off the tops. Cut a small slice off the bottom of each onion so they sit flat. Hollow out the center of the onions, leaving about 1/2-inch of the outer layers intact.
- Drizzle olive oil into a baking dish and place the hollowed onions in the dish.
- In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, Asiago cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Spoon the creamy cheese mixture into the hollowed-out onions, filling them generously.
- Sprinkle the breadcrumbs on top of each onion and drizzle with a little extra olive oil.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves and parsley over the top before serving.
