This German Chocolate Poke Cake is the ultimate dessert for any chocolate lover. Moist and rich chocolate cake is infused with sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce, filling every bite with decadent flavor. The creamy, coconut-pecan frosting on top adds a nutty and chewy texture, perfectly complementing the soft cake beneath.
- Ingredients:
- For the Cake:
- 1 box (15.25 oz) German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- For the Filling:
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- ½ cup caramel sauce
- For the Frosting:
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 3 large egg yolks, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to package directions, using water, oil, and eggs. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- While the cake is cooling, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the cake, spacing about 1 inch apart.
- In a small bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce. Pour the mixture evenly over the top of the cake, allowing it to sink into the holes.
- For the frosting, combine evaporated milk, sugar, butter, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 8-10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the top of the cake, covering the holes and caramel filling.
- Let the cake cool completely before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together.
