Caramelized Saltine Toffee

Saltine Toffee is a sweet and salty treat that’s incredibly easy to make, yet irresistibly delicious. The crunchy Saltine crackers provide the perfect base, while the rich caramel and smooth chocolate coating create a decadent flavor combination. The sprinkling of sea salt adds the perfect finishing touch to balance out the sweetness.

  1. Ingredients:
    • 40 Saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
    • 1 cup unsalted butter
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
    • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (for garnish)
    Directions:
    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire pan.
    2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture has thickened slightly.
    3. Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the crackers, ensuring that each cracker is covered. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly and the edges begin to caramelize.
    4. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee. Let the chocolate chips sit for a minute or two to soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
    5. Sprinkle the sea salt over the chocolate layer for a sweet and salty finish. Let the toffee cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until the toffee is completely set.
    6. Once set, break the toffee into pieces and enjoy! Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
