Caramel Apple Delight

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 4-5 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced thinly
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press 2/3 of the crust mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish and bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. While the crust bakes, toss the apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Remove the crust from the oven and layer the apple slices evenly over the crust.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples. Sprinkle the remaining crust mixture, oats, and pecans on top.
  7. Bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Let it cool before slicing into bars.
