- Ingredients:
- 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon (divided)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup cold water
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Caramel sauce (for dipping)
Directions:
- Peel the apples and slice them into thick matchsticks, removing the core. Pat them dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, salt, and cold water until smooth.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip the apple slices into the batter, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- Fry a few apple slices at a time until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes). Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix the remaining cinnamon with sugar. Toss the warm apple fries in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
- Serve immediately with caramel sauce for dipping.
