Apple Fries

  1. Ingredients:
  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (divided)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Caramel sauce (for dipping)

Directions:

  1. Peel the apples and slice them into thick matchsticks, removing the core. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, salt, and cold water until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip the apple slices into the batter, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  5. Fry a few apple slices at a time until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes). Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the remaining cinnamon with sugar. Toss the warm apple fries in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
  7. Serve immediately with caramel sauce for dipping.
