This Southern Fried Cabbage and Sausage recipe combines smoky sausage with tender, caramelized cabbage for a dish that’s rich in flavor and deeply satisfying. The natural sweetness of the cabbage pairs perfectly with the savory sausage, while garlic, onions, and a hint of smoked paprika add depth to every bite.
Ingredients:
- 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
 - 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
 - 1 large onion, diced
 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
 - 3 tablespoons olive oil or bacon drippings
 - Salt and black pepper to taste
 - 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
 - 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)
 - Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
 
Directions:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil or bacon drippings over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage and set aside.
 - In the same skillet, add diced onion and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently.
 - Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring to coat with the oil and seasonings. Season with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes if using.
 - Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
 - Return the sausage to the skillet and cook for another 2-3 minutes to combine flavors.
 - Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
